Redesigned for 2014, the Corolla has landed right on target, and it now ranks among the top models in its class. It combines the practicality and frugal fuel economy that compact-sedan buyers want with more interior room, upgraded amenities, and a sorely needed shot of style. Overall, it's a reasonable alternative to a larger, midsized sedan.

Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

Anonymous, TN (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Very sporty, clean lines looks more expensive than it was”

RORY R., ON (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“the sports 17 rims and sports suspension makes a huge difference in driving pleasure. but the acceleration is weak yet 34 MPG..”

ABRAM H., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Slow to respond on ramps”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I have gone on two trips with my new car. To the mountains. I was very I,pressed with highway mileage: 40mpg. And the way it traveled up the mountains was impressive. Really love the car”

Anonymous, NV (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I didn't know about it advance, and don't like, the unusual way you have to pull up the manual shift to go into reverse”

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Car feels less responsive to driver.”

ROBERT T., ME (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Handling is great. Corners tight and secure. Brakes stop on a dime. Very smooth ride and comfortable.”

GEORGE P., MA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“It really struggles at highway speeds.”

LEAH G., MA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Acceleration with CVT is a little difficult to get used to.”

CHRISTOPHER A., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“A little more "oomphy-oomf" would be good. It doesn't really accelerate with much gusto, like when merging. Otherwise it's been nice.”

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I feel it has very bad acceleration. I almost have to floor it to get it up to speed from a dead stop.”

Anonymous, MO (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Great acceleration, smooth ride over rough roads, firm handling in winds and windy roads. Firm grip on the road. Very quiet,”

CHARLIE S., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Accelerates well, occasional hesitation with CV transmission when easing off gas.”

Anonymous, CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“When I floor the gas on rare occasions I feel the engine is sluggish and unresponsive. It would be nice to have better pick up- I am used to my 2000 Honda Civic which had excellent acceleration when needed.”

RICHARD K., MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“It could handle turns better. That would be the one thing that would make me rethink buying this car.”

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

Anonymous, IL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“the acceleration and handling of this car is excellent”

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

A S., MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“I have the softex seats and the seat back doesn't breath and your back gets very warm and sweats. The seats should have some form of venting in them.”

JOHN H., NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Driver's seat is significantly more comfortable than passenger seat and back. Car is better for someone who doesn't drive passengers. But this car is still good value for its price.”

Anonymous, OH (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats are just ok for long rides. Need mot lumbar support.”

DOUGLAS B., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The driver's seat isn't great for short people. I am 5', and the headrest can't be adjusted to comfortably accommodate my head being much lower than the designer expected - it forces my head a bit forward.”

C L., WA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The seats are plain looking. Don't really like them. The seats on my 1999 corolla were cloth and looked better. These seats look cheap.”

Anonymous, NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Seat comfort is non-existent. Windows fog-up. Takes forever to start cooling down. No day/night rearview mirror. Side mirrors have noticeable delay when pressing button to adjust them.”

J E., TN (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Road noise seems excessive. Seats, reasonably comfortable. Climate control, very good. Ride, good.”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Annoying rattle in the dashboard area.”

Anonymous, NV (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Seat is not very comfortable for short people.”

Anonymous, CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“When I lean my knee against the door; the door pull handle pokes into my knee.”

THOMAS M., OH (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The climate control has an auto feature that is not explained in the owner's manual, although manually I can make the a/c work o.k.”

Anonymous, MO (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Drivers seat doesn't go back far enough & difficult to adjust (side pump lever). Climate control system is somewhat quirky and difficult to understand.”

ALLYN S., CT (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“A single push of one button get climate control going be it for heat or for cooling”

J N., CO (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“There is a squeak within the driver's side door.”

Anonymous, IL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“All good except interior noise level. Better than past years but needs more improvement in interior noise at interstate speed.”

RICH E., VA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“rear seat head rests are causing me blindspots while driving and backing. i put the rear seats in the down position so that i may better see behind me. the rear camera is totally useless. i must move my head to the right and then look downward to be able to see the screen and during the day, it is far too bright to even see the screen. I simply don't use it now. i much prefer to look behind when backing like i was taught way back when. and, the shifter. it is far too easy to get into the wrong g”

Anonymous, MA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Had AC problems shortly after the warranty expired, and had to replace the entire unit.”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats could be more supportive, especially in the lumbar support.”

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“My wife and I like the fact that the driver seat can be raised higher (both for comfort & better view out front window.”

JAMES M., VA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“it has a bumpy ride - we should have test driven it more”

L Y., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Front seats are a little hard. Front passenger seat could be more comfortable. Ability to tilt both front seats is lacking.”

GEORGE R., TX (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“My wife and I find the front and rear seat comfort are impressive, with plenty of leg and head room, even for me. The automatic climate control system is intuitive and easy to operate. The ride is great as well. Moreover, the car is relatively quiet.”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“the seats are very comfortable, easy to adjust but I would like more leg room”

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Would have preferred a straight angle steering wheel position instead of the slanted.”

NANCY J., NC (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“outside noise is louder than expected.”

Anonymous, MA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Has Too much road noise, daylight running lights are not automatic have to choose and switch back to night lights as needed.Needs more horse power.”

PERRY R., TX (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Ease of use and comfort provided.”

Anonymous, KS (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Air vents don't adjust enough. Can't direct air away from passenger/driver.”

PETER L., FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Outside noise is more of a problem in this car than in our Camry, but that's to be expected when you pay less, I'm sure.”

Anonymous, OH (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The climate control can be reset and goes to the same temperature and fan speed you used before. Of course, this can be changed. The seats are comfortable, although I would have like more lower back support. The ride is quiet. Like our 1996 Corolla, when the [standard] transmission is in idle, you do not hear the engine at all. I really like the wide angle backup camera that comes on automatically when put in reverse gear - especially helpful in crowded parking lots. The light and windshi”

JUDY R., NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“some wind noise at higher speeds”

STEPHEN K., OH (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Driver seat does not allow me as much leg room as I thought even after a satisfactory test drive before leasing.”

CLIFF R., OH (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Seats not as comfortable (side bolsters too intrusive) as my all-time favorite car (1993 Corolla), which I kept for twenty years. External noise very pronounced (road, manual transmission, engine), presumably due to decreased sound insulation compared to previous. Side windows too small for comfortable reaching of ATMs, window pickup service, etc. And, most important, the outward visibility resulting from the small windows and dumb wedge design of the body make for a decidedly uncomfortable dr”

NEIL M., MN (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Enough room, lots of road noise”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“My wife has driven 4 or 5 corollas and put in excess of 100,000 miles on each. We just sold her last yesterday with over 111K miles. The only expenses beside oil changes were a brake job, tires, battery and transmission flush. And we sold that car easily for $6300 for which we paid $15,000 six years earlier. About $1400 per year not countinig gas, ins, etc. (Other sellers and dealer asked much higher for the same 2010 Cor w/similar milage).”

THOMAS P., MA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“This is a very comfortable, low cost vehicle with many standard features.”

ROBERT E., MA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“There are many standard features on this car that would be considered options on a similar make and model.”

Anonymous, BC (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“good, got extras at no cost plus a discount.”

Anonymous, NB (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“excellent value for a $17k auto, bullet proof engine and put together with quality no other car maker can match at this price level. good easy driving, high comfort level for driver and passengers, not a BMW driver wise, but with lots of $ in your pocket”

JOHN S., FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I bought it for its dependability and relatively low cost to operate”

Anonymous, PA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I felt I received a great deal on my lease price through a manufacturer's special.”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Comfort and gas mileage”

WILLIAM W., TN (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Excellent value for the money”

GEORGE S., FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I like the fact that it came with the backup camera and Bluetooth in this price range.”

LINDA Z., NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“At $23,000, I thought it was an expensive car. However, most cars cost more than I think they are worth.”

Anonymous, CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Good gas mileage Reaspnabe mamtemance costs”

ROBERT-DEBBIE D., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Good price for features of this model Corolla. I like especially the "ECO" feature which shows when my driving is "stretching" the MPG.”

JAMES M., VA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“I prefer hatchbacks, I used to have a Matrix, but I love everything else on the Corolla.”

CLAUDIA K., MO (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“A sporty looking car.”

Anonymous, NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Did not have a lumber support option so I had to have it added. Also, it has more road noise than I anticipated.”

Anonymous, TN (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The clothes seats are not family friendly. Water will leave a stain on the seats. I have never seen seats that stain so easy. I am VERY dissatisfied with the seats in my car.”

KIMBERLY M., OH (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Smart , stylish , compact”

GEORGE S., FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“It is very important to be able have a sun visor extender which Corolla doesn't have. Also, to have the seats adjusted automatically and not manually and being able to raise the passenger front seat.”

Anonymous, CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I personally like the styling in the inside of the corolla. After reading what Consumer Reports mentioned about the plastic pieces for décor, I was a little pissed off, because I happen to like the placement of them and how color coordinated they are. So, I don't think that that should be a factor at all, when rating the inside...the remark sounded like the car was "Cheap". Because of this remark I won't get this book anymore....if someone is going to put something that minor in there...forge”

THOMAS L., CT (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Love everything about it.”

Anonymous, FL (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Frontal Area”

ROBERT-DEBBIE D., CA (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Very sharp looking. Turns a lot of heads.”

PETE P., NJ (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The car looks nice. However, I think the body is too close to the ground, catching on curbs or hitting bottom on sharp inclines. The wheel covers are very nice (S version). I would not have ordered a sun roof, but it comes with the S version. The vision from the windows and mirrors is good, making it easy to change lanes and see what is going on around me.”

JUDY R., NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“Beautiful styling and look on the S model especially the 17 inch painted rims”

ANTHONY L., NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“The interior is a bit too economy designed. Some additional features and design qualities would be good.”

Anonymous, WY (2016 Toyota Corolla)

“I liked the previous design aka smaller Corolla this car looks like my grandmother should drive it”

Anonymous, NY (2016 Toyota Corolla)
