When Toyota last redesigned the Corolla it landed right on target, ranking among the top models in its class. The Corolla combines the practicality and frugal fuel economy that compact-sedan buyers want with a roomy interior, upgraded amenities, and a sorely needed shot of style. The Corolla is slightly larger than the old model, which allows for a surprisingly spacious rear seat with ample leg room.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"It simply feels right. It is perfectly balanced in all ways."

Ruth H., VA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"drives smooth like a car costing much more."

James W., WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"poor acceleration"

Arthur B., FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Safety features (collision prevention and lane change warning) are very helpful while driving"

Robert H., ON (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"It's a zippy little car. The driver's seat is electrical but the passenger's is manual and little adjustable lumbar support. Ingress is a challenge but once in I have head room and let room. I would have more head room if there were no sun roof."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Acceleration is excellent when merging onto freeway traffic or just passing slower vehicles. Pick up is quick and effortless. I am still getting used to the LDA (Lane Departure Alert with steering control) and it has scared me at times because the LDA seems to take over my steering. I have only had the car for 5 days and I know as time goes on I will become more accustomed to the various features."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Great styling. Comfortable seats. Cabin is not as quiet as I would like. Acceleration is disappointing, my Buick Encore has much better acceleration. Entune system does not integrate well with IPhone and is horrible with voice controls. Most disappointing part of the vehicle is the Entune system."

Michael C., MO (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Drives and handles well around town. However, rapid acceleration is noisy and not as fast as I would like."

Anonymous, BC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"It is peppy and handles well."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I put a computer chip in my car and when I ordered my car I added the TRD suspension and handling package"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Acceleration is sluggish"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Acceleration and handling are both smooth. Our one complaint is that the tires that the Corolla came with are terrible in the snow (because they're designed to have less friction for good gas mileage). Buyers in northern states should be aware of this."

Anonymous, MT (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"very responsive for an eco vehicle."

David M., WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The car is very economical and will preform when it needs to. It handles just fine on the highway and city."

Anonymous, SK (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Acceleration is really good, car handles well even in bad weather."

Donald S., NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Underpowered, engine noise when accelerating, oversteering, sluggish transmission"

Anonymous, ON (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Drives like a sports car handles creat with all lot of get up and go"

Vicki M., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"It drives and handles well. It isn't a sports car but it is an excellent family car. The safety features are most welcome and I've tested them all!"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"CVT transmission shifting takes some getting used to."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The Corolla is a very comfortable vehicle to drive and it has plenty of power when needed."

Susan M., ID (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Poor acceleration"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I like the safety features, particularly the ability to use cruise control to set your pace behind the car in front of you without having to use your brakes to do so."

Julie G., NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"strong and steady"

James W., WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I really love the dynamic cruise control. It slows down when a vehicle is in front and resumes set speed when able."

Anonymous, BC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Starting from a stop is anything but smooth. Give a little gas nothing happens give a little more gas nothing's happened give a little more gas and it takes off like crazy."

Guy H., FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Quick and handles well."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Car revs loudly when I am accelerating quickly. The CVT shifts pretty well - there is no throttle response delay that I saw in other cars that I test-drove."

Jonathan K., NJ (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Handling is good but acceleration is average maybe because it’s only 1.6 liter or 1.8"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"It has enough acceleration for me and handles great. Haven't had an issue with it yet."

Anonymous, ON (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"She's quick--almost too quick. Handles beautifully. Love the stick!!!"

Mariann S., NC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"acceleration is slow and the vehicle struggles with multiple passengers in the vehicle"

Brian D., MN (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Very, very poor acceleration. A safety hazard in highway driving."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I think the acceleration needs to be worked on, it drags. I came from a standard that had good pick up but it appears the sport Toyota corolla does not have enough pep. It is too heavy for the size engine. That is my only gripe in particular because of the price, I would have thought the pick up would have been better."

Cinthia V., NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Very Noisy when accelerating. This vehicle was purchased as a commuter car based on price, gas mileage, and reliability which it achieves. The voice command for making calls is not great and I have to repeat myself several times and is not the same quality as my 2016 Highlander Voice Command system."

Anonymous, ON (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"handles with a light feel and is very responsive. quite powerful for a 4 cylinder"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Acceleration is underpowered."

Richard D., MA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Car handles well. Acceleration is OK"

Anonymous, MA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"For a small car, this has excellent acceleration and handling"

David C., VA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The CVT moves the car quickly through acceleration and does so with very smooth transition as the drive ratio changes. The steering is very responsive."

Anonymous, RI (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"First car I've owned with a CVT. I like the instant response (much like a stick shift) even if the engine sometimes gets noisy at high RPMs. Now, we will see how it holds up over time."

Anonymous, OH (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I'm in control as opposed to those I test drove with CVT handling."

Beth I., MA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The engine is really loud when accelerating."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Handles extremely well"

Anonymous, PA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"gas mileage"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"We have only had the Corolla for a short time - a month and a half - but lets say the Corolla is not overly endowed with keenness when asked to pass at highway speed. Plan accordingly. The handling is light and reasonably accurate with minimal influence from crosswinds or undulating roads."

Harvey B., AB (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Handling is very good. I drive a lot of curvy up and down roads in Hawaii and the handling is very consistent and the car is always stable. I also particularly like the radar assisted cruise control feature."

Anonymous, HI (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Requires heavy throttle to keep up with traffic. Handles very good with the SE package."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Solid drive, no surprises."

Joan F., MO (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The acceleration is mostly somewhat jerky and not smooth. I do not like the multiple automatic gear changes during acceleration. There is hesitation while changing gears going from a stop to acceleration quickly. Unless you push the pedal just right the acceleration is very jerky after a stop. It’s a little scary and the engine roars loudly if you accelerate to move into traffic from a stop."

Anonymous, SC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"good acceleration for small engine, economic mileage 32mpg, enough drive to avoid bad situations,"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"It is a bit noisier than my old 1998 Camry, but it is a smaller and much newer car"

Ken H., NS (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Extremely comfortable driving and riding in this little car. the seat fit with excellent bolsters and cushion. Material seems to be able to withstand years of wear and tear"

John M., TX (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"We bought the SE model with fancier interior, suspension, paint, and tires, etc. Everything works easily and feels and looks brand new, it handles much better than we expected, it is very economical in city and highway driving, and its safety and convenience factors exceed those of many higher priced cars. Seats are far better than many economy cars', and headlights are best I've had. And price was thousands less than an Elantra similarly outfitted, and mileage better. Upgraded, pleasantly soft..."

Bob S., AB (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Just feels comfortable to drive in"

Robert H., ON (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"so far, I like everything about the comfort for this car"

Robert S., WI (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Quiet ride."

Anonymous, KY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Very comfortable"

Anonymous, IL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"not enough padding or support in the bottom"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The back seat is a very nice size compared to other cars in this class. I find the seats pretty comfortable."

Jonathan K., NJ (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Seats are comfortable. Would be better if the air conditioning were more reliable."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The car has heated power drivers seat which is comfortable and easy to control. However, it does have a lot of road noise."

Anonymous, SK (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats are a bit firm but the cabin is incredibly quiet and the ride very smooth for a near base trim and model vehicle."

Anonymous, MT (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Good comfort for the price and drives decent for a 20k car."

Dean, WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"While this car drives excellent it is very noisy (wind noise) while driving which makes it impossible to use voice commands"

Vicki M., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Back seats have lots of room, more than the Camry. This is why I bought the new Corolla, why they don't advertise this fact more I have no idea."

Tom-Stephanie V., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats are pretty good. The ride is also pretty good. The acceleration is not that great. Noise is not bad."

Mark S., MO (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"These seats are far more comfortable then our last Dodge."

Anonymous, ME (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Ride is somewhat harsh on all but perfectly maintained street and road surfaces. At highway speed, road and wind noise higher than I had expected; a short around-town test drive didn't reveal this before purchase."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats in the new Corolla are terrible. This is my third Toyota I usually run 250.000 miles and the sell them. until now I would only buy Toyota s however as disappointed as i am with the seats I am going to shop the market for the next car. I really do not want to sit on box springs for hours at a time"

Thomas H., OH (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The car is quite noisy (tire noise, road noise) and the small bumps in the road transfer to the seats affecting the ride."

Harvey B., AB (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"the driver's seat is adjustable for height. I have arthritis in my hips and spine. having the seat elevated for entering & egress greatly reduces the pain I experience in other vehicles."

Lois M., MA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Conmfortable for a big man"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"No lumbar support"

Anonymous, VA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Very comfortable, well made, attractive."

Michael H., VA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"This Toyota has lots of road noise on most roads. There is a prominent roar from the tires at all speeds. The ride is also a bit bumpy on road surfaces. It has even developed a rattle in the dash when driving over some highway pavement"

Anonymous, SC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Kind of noisy, sound is under average"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Could be quieter. Ride in the SE is sporty, a bit harsh in Local driving on uneven surfaces. Otherwise comfortable Out on the road."

Anonymous, WI (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats in the SE Trim are much more supportive than in my previous 2008 Corolla LE. The steering wheel feels much better, too! The engine and transmission are much better as well -- 30% more horsepower and the same gas mileage! A shame it can't pull a small utility trailer if necessary. The manual tells me not to install a hitch receiver at all, even for a bicycle rack. Not sure I like that change, even though I never installed a hitch on my 2008. Another downgrade is the Gauge Cluster -- from the clearly visible Lexus-like gauges in the 2008 to a blasé blue that's backlight only and night in the 2017. It's a small thing, but the left foot block, which used to be a big chunk of rubber bolted to the floor and was extremely solid. In the 2017 it's just a stamped floorboard section covered with carpet augmented with a thin rubber pad; it slides when I put pressure on it -- cause it's just carpet. Dissappointing.I also miss the bigger console with a second cigarette lighter power plug inside."

Joseph N., MI (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Seats are good, cabin very quiet"

Anonymous, TN (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"seats fit well for longer rides for us. There is a bit of wind noise on the passenger side - the dealer says they can't here it, but it's still there."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Solid car, comfortable for 4, easy entry and good seating. Excellent gas mileage, ok acceleration, but noisy when accelerating. Cabin is reasonably quiet for highway driving. As basic transportation, this is an excellent car."

Kelly K., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The ride is pleasant The noise low The seats of the corolla 2010 are better the storage is poor."

Eduardo E., FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Loud engine noise when accelerating Instruments are not well designed, Tachometer too large, should have large digital speed indicator like Prius."

Ron G., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"tinny feel noisy sounds like a truck when you step on gas"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Good seats. Ride and noise is good for a small car"

Anonymous, SC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Very annoying dashboard rattles at cold temperatures below 50 degrees. Took it back to the dealership and a week later still doing the same thing. This car is a rattle trap. My 2008 Corolla has no rattles at all."

Tim D., NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The driver seating is extremely uncomfortable. There's no legroom and it makes it difficult to get in and out of the car. I can't move the seat back enough to stretch my legs. I have to bend my head down to get in and out of the car so I don't hit my head on the door frame."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"After driving one hour I need to get out. Leg and knee pain that I don't get driving our Camry. Power seats would probably allow a better driving position."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The car is a bit noisy and the seats are fairly comfortable. However, this is what I expected from a car in this price range."

Cline D., TX (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Easier to get into than previous model."

Anonymous, GA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"As your review pointed out prior to my purchase, the interior noise level is high. Otherwise the car is a joy to drive. Many compliments on the sports look and of course, the mileage as always is wonderful."

Leonard, KY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"very noisy...very, very uncomfortable. I wonder if it has shocks? Hate being in it."

Kim S., AZ (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The seats are higher than sedans of this class making it easy to get in and out , the distance between the drivers swat back and the second row seat is more speacious than in some other cars . Very comfortable"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Seats are not quite as comfortable as they could be. Seat bottom sinks a bit as I drive. Keep having to move myself up and back. Feels like the bottom of the seat should be firmer and higher at the back. Road rumble is a bit loud. Had a Honda Accord prior and it was much quieter inside with respect to road noise. The ride is very good, smooth and easy. Steering is good as is turning radius."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Noise level is annoying even with windows closed"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The smoothness of the ride is not good, especially as compared to my 2007 Camry."

Floyd G., OK (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"When we purchased this Corolla I had stepped down from a Toyota Camry due to wanting a car with a smaller profile and getting better gas mileage (which I did not get as it turns out!). In doing so I lost several comforts as XLE models were NOT to be found at my time of purchase. No heated seats, no lumbar support, no automatic seat controls!!!"

Liz-Don W., NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Driver'seat is adjustable, passenger seat is manual and uncomfortable. Rideisbumpy . Road noise is moderate."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"We were surprised at the list price and used Consumer Reports' service to get a fine deal on a decent economy car with a fantastic resale history, excellent gas mileage, and a comfortable, impressive interior. For about 10% more than a subcompact, we got a car that feels unusually solid and surprisingly comfortable, should last well over 200000 kms with almost no problems - and had almost every advanced safety device built into the base price. And depreciation should be small: everyone knows th..."

Bob S., AB (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"For the price it is a great car, Great mileage, really good looking and drives very nice."

David M., WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

Norine S., ON (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Only have 120 miles on it, so not sure, but I like it so far a lot."

Steven C., FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"It works so we well it reminds us that conventional economy cars can be safety--equipped and even semi-luxurious if one shops carefully. Standard safety equipement is unusual for the year and class. Seat warmers, sun roof, center screen, and even wipers and lights are among the best we have seen at any price."

Bob S., AB (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"For the money the Toyota has good quality. The appearance of the exterior is smooth and refined. The interior is a little on the cheap looking side."

Michael A., FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I needed a car because I got hit from behind in my 2010 toyota corolla so I picked this because it was a stick shift."

Mariann S., NC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Excellent value for the price. Car was under $20K and includes two years totally free maintenance. Very nice interior and amazing gas mileage. All the safety systems are included: Smart cruise control, lane departure warning automatic braking, tire inflation warning, automatic lights, etc."

"comfortable seating and like the styling inside and out. It's updated and the appearance and looks are better than the average car in this price range"

Donna C., FL (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The safety features are impressive. The lane departure and steering correction are the most accurate I've seen. Hard to imagine this was included with a $23k car."

Timothy G., NY (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Outrageous value, given all of the high end safety features included in this vehicle"

David C., VA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"I love all the safety features that come standard such as auto high beams, collision avoidance, back up camera and especially the seat height control which helps with a medical condition. To get all of these aids would have cost me thousands more on another vehicle."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Toyota Corolla)

Kelly K., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Good value. Excellent economy. Excellent safety systems standard in compact car. Very good ride, comfort, for such a size car."

Wayne C., QC (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The price was spectacular for what i got."

Thomas H., OH (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"excellent value for what you get."

James W., WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Love the new safety features. The adaptive cruise control is great. We use the lane departure only on the freeway, but I feel much better having it for my wife's primary vehicle."

David M., WA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"Excellent value when considering Toyota's safety systems (TSS-P), which help 1st-time drivers avoid rear-ending people, as well as the radar cruise control and lane keep assist. All this for under 20 grand? Sure, it's not very powerful and some don't like CVTs but this is definitely a perfect first car for college kids. Oh, I also wish it was a hatch, which is now available for 2019 as I understand it."

Jeff A., CA (2017 Toyota Corolla)

"The entune system on the Corolla 2017 is not an exemple. It's bad. I don't use the navigation because it is inaccurate, no traffic. It's complicate to use. I prefer my phone with HereGo. The odometer on my Corolla is inaccurate. So my phone gives me accurate speed."

"The dealer damaged my new car & refused to repair it until I contacted my auto insurer. I went through the insurance company anyway because I will never use this dealer for anything again. Toyota Corporate refused to do anything about the dealer's actions. Even though I told the dealer and Toyota Corporate not to contact me in any way they continue to email me. I will never buy another Toyota (Lexus) product again!!! The dealer refused to take the car back because I bought it in PA and register it in DE, I believe this is fraud"

John S., DE (2017 Toyota Corolla)
