The Highlander was the first car-based, mid-sized SUV in its price range. The refined and effortless powertrain is combined with a supple ride and easy access. These serve to enhance the spacious, quiet, and comfortable interior to make Highlander a pleasant vehicle for everyday driving. Emergency handling could be more capable, but it's secure enough overall. In sum, the Highlander is a very good choice.

Timothy G., CT (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"I have not driven a newer Highlander, but my only hope is they all drive as well as this model does. It handles exceptionally well for an SUV, the ride feels much higher up than it really is so visibility is excellent, and it's fantastic in the Midwest winters. Still has solid acceleration for a 14 year old car as well"

Anonymous, IL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

Anonymous, ID (2003 Toyota Highlander)

Frank L., CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Very comfortable, especially on long trips"

Anonymous, NM (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"The leather seats are very comfortable and have multiple controls for height, bottom cushion tilt, lumbar, and back. I believe the ride is better than the ride in our newer Highlander."

Philip P., FL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Electric seat adjustment is outstanding, especially when changing drivers (one being tall and the other short). Can get just the right adjustment for my body."

Suzanne M., CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"In 2003, I was driving (Chev. Blazer) up to 4 hours a day and stopping every 45 minutes owing to sciatica and leg pain. After test driving several SUVs, I purchased the Highlander. Anonymous, NY (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Very comfortable to ride - especially for longer distances"

Anonymous, MA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Perhaps it's the age of the vehicle but the seats are not very comfortable. They don't "caress" your body and the adjustments don't help with that. The ride has gotten noisy over the years but we believe this could be due to a replaced wi shield and/or all season tires."

Anonymous, PA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"This car rides like a limousine. Extremely comfortable. Barely feel any bumps in the road."

William S., RI (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Even after owning this car for 14 years, I can say that I'm completely satisfied with it in every way. Additionally, the comfort is as good as most of the new vehicles out there, and I have no reason to replace it."

Anonymous, FL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"This is absolutely the most comfortable car I have ever been in! It beats my friends' 2016 Subaru Outback by a mile. The drivers seat is easily adjustable in so many ways. The most amazing thing is that even after all these years and miles, the support of the seat, the foam is unchanged."

Deborah B., CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Seats too soft. Noisy on highway. Weak AC. Wonderful ride, more than adequate acceleration (mine is 4 cylinders), decent handling, decent economy, incredibly dependable. I'd buy it again if they still made the 4 cylinder model."

DAVID C., CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"A lot of road noise, particularly on the freeway with concrete pavement. Seats are too hard."

Anonymous, NC (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Obviously, this is an older model and Toyota has probably made improvements over time ...... The seats could have further adjustment levels and positions for comfort."

Anonymous, PA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"My wife loves this car and won't part with it. It is a great road car, good acceleration, and climate control works great. It has been a very reliable car. We love the Limited Edition package with the leather seats. The driver's visor keeps falling down and it is expensive to find a replacement."

Anonymous, OH (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"center console too wide cup holders lacking"

Anonymous, KY (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Seats are comfortable and riding higher allows better road visability."

Anonymous, NM (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"The seats and leg room are the most comfortable of any car I have ever owned (I am 6' 3" tall)"

RICHARD C., VA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"drivers seat not very comfortable for long trips - I use an added cushion. Car has always had a lot of wind noise. It's older now, and been developing some rattles as well."

Anonymous, NM (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Ride very important"

R G., IL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Love the heated seats in winter"

Anonymous, NC (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"I have a bad back, and the seats are very ergonomic. I have no problems driving for a while in these seats."

FRANK L., CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Very comfortable seats; driver's seat is fully adjustable and electric. Although air-conditioning is showing its age, still works fine."

SUZANNE M., CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"I don't think the vehicle is as well insulated as it could be as there is a lot of "road noise"."

Anonymous, FL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"I am 5'3" tall, and the driver's seat does not really fit me well. Also, the angle of the shoulder restraint is uncomfortable."

Anonymous, CA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Like captain style chairs with arm rests. Ease do getting In and out. 2003 model has no extra seating which we do not need."

Anonymous, MA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"I'm a tall person (6'1"), so I don't fit all that well in the driver's seat. It really doesn't go back far enough for me, but it's more than fine for my wife (5'8") and she's the primary driver of the car."

RICHARD E., FL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"the highlander is a normal size with a good overall fuel milage and performance."

JAMES C., AL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Seats are great, comfortable, great lower spine support. The ride is smooth."

JON B., LA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Good vehicle, commuting or long drives. Only issue is how it rides rough on bad roads, which means almost all the roads in PA. We liked our old 96 Ford Explorer better because it handled the rough roads & snow much better. The Highlander's 4 x 4is marginal in comparison, plus it doesn't stop straight on icey roads."

JOHN C., PA (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Bought new Still on road"

Anonymous, FL (2003 Toyota Highlander)

"Probably the best value on any car that I have ever owned. With routine and consistent maintenance, no major engine repairs have been required with the vehicle. The inside looks like new and I get a lot of compliments on that as well. Obviously the car is not equipped with the newest gadgetry and that is the only reason why I am considering purchasing a vehicle within the next 2-5 years. In the interim, I would like to see the odometer reach 200,000 miles (only another 24,000 miles to go!)"
