What Owners Say
"It doesn't handle well"
Anonymous, MA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Decent acceleration for such a large SUV."
Everett I., CA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Tends to float somewhat (loose steering) on the highway)"
Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"acceleration is great, handles poorly, it's a jerky car"
Anonymous, IL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Very sure handling in all conditions, and more-than-adequate acceleration to meet every driving scenario."
David J., TN (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Good acceleration. Handling is not crisp."
Anita P., FL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Drives well and is comfortable. Very reliable. Completely satisfied."
Joe H., AZ (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Excellent acceleration. 6 cylinder has a lot of pickup. Rides like a Camry, very smooth and responsive."
Steven W., IL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The acceleration is great. Once in a while the traction slips a little but it's acceptable. You don't forget you are driving a large passenger vehicle but as long as you don't get stupid about it and expect it to handle like a sports car, it does just fine."
Allan F., TX (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The car handles well enough, but I would like more steering feel. I'm not a fan of the electric steering."
Kurt S., OH (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The car has superb accelation from a standing-still position and plenty of reserve for passing at highway speeds. Handling is assured at all speeds, even when breaking hard."
Ben K., MI (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Great handling"
Peter H., NS (2008 Toyota Highlander)"ride and acceleration"
Robert E., MD (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Awesone"
Anonymous, NY (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Accelerates smoothly. Steering is very responsive."
Anonymous, MD (2008 Toyota Highlander)"This is a truck-like vehicle in a lot of ways but comfortable. It won't give you a great driving experience, but it moves comfortably and acceleration is good."
William S., FL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"my only concern is that I find the steering feedback is a little light for my preference. I personally like to feel some resistance in the steering and I find that I constantly have to pay attention when driving to avoid wandering. There is nothing wrong with the vehicle; it's just my perception based on 60 years of driving other vehicles."
John J., ON (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Acceleration & handling is very impressive."

Anonymous, VA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The car handles quite well in traffic with good acceleration and is very smooth and quite on the open road."
Anonymous, FL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"V6/tranny not as smooth shifting as I would expect. Doesn't seem to have much get up and go unless you really push it and then passing gear harshly kicks in. Also doesn't seem to downshift correctly when decelerating."
MICHAEL W., AL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Great long distance ride-very good for touring"
Anonymous, IL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Although I love the other features of the SUV, it's not a very quick car and doesn't have much zip."

J N., NC (2008 Toyota Highlander)"I am unhappy with the overall mileage of this vehicle."
W M., SC (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The car tight, responsive, and relatively quiet."

Anonymous, PA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"First year of elect assist power stearing. Handling is only fair and requires constant minor steeriing adjustments. Poor road feel."

Anonymous, TX (2008 Toyota Highlander)"For a vehicle its age, the acceleration is still impressive. Handling is very good. Impressed with the quality of the engine performance over time."
Anonymous, NC (2008 Toyota Highlander)"ride continues to be smooth, car is reactive immediately to changes in speed (decrease or increase) and changing lanes; the engine runs so quietly that often people don't realize I am near (pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.). Love the way"
Anonymous, FL (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Handles well and smoothly. Feels safe to drive."
Ernest H., CA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Drives great. BUT, I'd I have one geipe, it would be steering feel. It is absolutely numb. It feels no different going sliw, fast, straightaway, or curves. I wish it had more feedback."
Christopher B., TN (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The Highlander has plenty of get up and go when you need it with the six cylinder. The handling always feel secure. Four wheel drive works very well in the snow."

James S., PA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Even as a vehicle my family has owned for 11 years, the engine just keeps going. Acceleration from the V6 is still stout and handling for a mid-large SUV is impressive. A lot of confidence with this vehicle in tough northern winters. Turning radius isn't great but not unexpected."
Anonymous, MI (2008 Toyota Highlander)"The vehicle handles well in dry weather or in a snowstorm, I haven’t had any issues. The traction and the handling during rain or snow has been great."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"This car has great pep, but drives more like a car than an SUV, making it a very comfortable ride."
Anonymous, VA (2008 Toyota Highlander)"Toyota's Hybrid system is outstanding in that the regenerative braking both recharges the battery and at the same time saves wear on the disc brakes. I have replaced the disc brake pads once at 110,000 miles. The gas mileage has been very good considering the weight and size of the vehicle. Under some conditions (flat terrain) I have achieved as high as 32MPG. Another plus is its handling in snow. The computer system senses slippage in the front wheels and will activate the rear electric drive so the vehicle becomes all-wheel-drive. The Highlander has had only one major repair, more preventive; replace the timing belt at 100,000 miles. I have followed manufacturer's routine maintenance instructions throughout the life of the vehicle. I can say that this is the best vehicle I've ever owned."
