What Owners Say

"acceleration"

Tom B., AZ (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"drives very well and handling is just what i like about the highlander."

Louis L., MA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Excellent acceleration & very smooth handling"

Anonymous, CO (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"There is oversteer. Braking feels spongy."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Very strong smooth"

Stanley S., CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Handling, responsiveness, turning, acceleration are all great."

Anonymous, MN (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Accelerating either from a stop or while moving slowly (15-20 mph) into a turn or curve, the vehicle tends to oversteer and consequently, requires a steady hand on the steering wheel. The movement is not smooth and can surprise an unsuspecting driver. It is not unusual for the driver to feel like he is about to lose control of the steering. The dealership service people claim this is typical on the Highlander. I feel that there is a problem with the steering."

William B., CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Good acceleration and handing. Great highway cruiser."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The XLE has great acceleration and when driving on the interstate and hitting potholes, this vehicle cushions people from feeling them. Handling is excellent on dirt roads in Arizona--I feel confident the vehicle will handle any situation. Vehicle glides on all roads."

William W., AZ (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Wow....that V-6 has more than ample power when I need it....very responsive for passing/accelerating. Safety alert bells monitoring lane position and the car in front is pretty cool....still getting used to the cruise control feature which does not allow me to get closer to the car in front of me....probably a good thing!"

Charles B., VA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Very quick--excellent acceleration. Great handling--cornering, comfortable ride over long distances."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"powerful smooth acceleration. Handles well"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Toyota navigation system is terrible. Won’t buy again their navigation system Their hub caps are like a can. They peel back every time you hit a curb"

Duane A., LA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Fantastic acceleration, merging on the highway or passing on rural highways is effortless. For a larger SUV, the Highlander handles quite well, very little to no body roll on faster corners and great off-road absorbing of bumps and humps. Downhill assist works awesome and traction is great in dirt, mud and snow."

Chris V., ON (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Bad: when accelerating suddenly, if the steering wheel is not in the 'straight-on' position, the car can jerk to right, holding strongly on to steering wheel with both hands is essential."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Handles well. Comfortable ride. Dependable."

Anonymous, AL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Very responsive and easy to drive."

"During wet snowy weather as in east side of Lake Michigan in late December / January the car was difficult to keep from skidding, swaying and was unstable. Not good in winter driving conditions."

Michael C., IL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"V6 is powerful but traction is extremely limited on FWD model. Comfortable ride. Wind and road noise is good and much better than my 2004 Honda Pilot. Braking is good. Transmission shift logic is a bit confusing especially when stepping on throttle to quickly accelrate, than changing mind to travel at a more standard pace."

Grant D., GA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Rides rough. does not handle bumps (small or large) well."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Plenty of zip. Handles well."

ALICE H., WA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"LOVE the acceleration! That said, the front wheel drive torque-steer and associated wheel-spin during acceleration making even mild turns is annoying at best. On wet pavement the front tires spin easily and the traction control is slow to take control. If I had known this I would have purchased the all-wheel drive option."

JAMES M., FL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"When you accelerate HARD, you need to grab the steering wheel firmly to keep the car from pulling to the side."

L M., TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"excellent acceleration that adds to safety when getting on the freeway or passing another car quickly."

"Finally an attractive body design on the Highlander. The ride is comfortable, drives and handles well in snow and rain. The only complaint is navigation system and speak controls are cumbersome and hard to use. The rear auto lift door also leaks grease coming out of the pistons. And the HVAC blower motoris quite loud at low levels"

"Driver's seat control panel/trim keeps popping off. Have had it repaired several times. Range of drivers power seat movement (front to back) isn't much."

SANDY B., SD (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The driver's seat is probably the most comfortable of any vehicle I've owned, all the way back to the 1970's. It's too bad that the XLE trim level does not come equipped with a power front passenger seat. That is a significant shortcoming, but not worth paying over $5k more to up-level to the Limited."

"High end features at bargain basement prices but implementation is not well thought out."

Donald S., NH (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Platinum series, all the bells a whistles! Everything is working fine except for what I consider premature brake replacement at only 20000 miles. Severe rusting required replacement, front and rear and Toyota refused to warranty."

Margaret Z., MA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Compared the car to Lexus, mercedes and Acura and this car was equal to or exceeded the others."

Rick M., NC (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"It might be because I am short but screen often glares out and I can’t use back up camera or navigation screen"

Annette C., TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"We got a good deal on the Toyota and are very happy with it. It also retains its value well."

Ken V., IN (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Value is excellent,! Have owned it for 4.5 years and it runs great. Haven’t spent any money other than routine maintenance and a set of replacement tires. Steering feel inspires confidence. I would buy another Highlander in a minute!"

Michael K., WI (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The Highlander holds it's resale value better than most midsize suv's."

Mike H., AL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Awesome resale, great reliability. Have not needed to repair anything. Oil and filter changes only. About to replace the tires"

Paul A., TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"I feel one gets good value and safety with the Subaru. Clearly there are other cars in the same price range with more inside glitz or sharper external lines but I don't believe they have the same safety features or safety history that a Subaru has. Look at the IIHS comparisons!"

Alan B., FL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Good price for features provided"

Anonymous, GA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"It has continued to just need routine maintenance. It fits my family and friends, and it tows utility trailers very well. I really LOVE the full time AWD, and it drives more securely than my previous full size Sequoia."

Larry R., CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"While kind of "vanilla" compared to other comparable SUV's, the Highlander is what you might call, "best all around". It just does a very good job of being what it is supposed to be... a trouble-free, reliable, six passenger family vehicle."

Robert C., AR (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"It is a great value. It is a luxury car, without the luxury car price. We have paid only for usual maintenance and have had minimal issues. The vehicle drives great and has a wonderful sound system."

George B., LA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"I think the highlander is the greatest value for my money"

Donald L., IA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The purchase price was very reasonable in relation to quality. There has no problems so far."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"My 2014 Highlander has retained good value over the years and because it is in great condition, and my low annual mileage when having it serviced am often offered a very good price if I would want to trade it in on a new model."

Anonymous, GA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"passenger seat too high"

JOSEPH H., PA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Reliable and not over priced."

PETER G., NJ (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Very reliable, except for command center, Occasionally goes blank and/or freezes. Rides and handles better than expected on highway. Comfortable and roomy back seats. Good cargo space. I would recommend this car, in fact have to my sister."

Anonymous, OK (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Did not have the option of getting the safety features at the LE + level. Would not connect properly with my "dumb" phone"

Anonymous, VA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"It is great car with a lot of safety equipment. It get very good gas mileages on the road."

JOHN H., NE (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"For the price, and considering the large blind spots this new design has, the XLE trim level should have included blind spot monitoring."

JAMES M., FL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"very comfortable and roomy"

DIANE Z., IN (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Great car"

ALLEN D., NC (2014 Toyota Highlander)

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Limited edition vehicle. Very expensive and noting special about the car."

Anonymous, NM (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"standard features included items I would not have ordered separately. In other words, I got more than I expected as standard features"

NICHOLAS C., NH (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Last Highlander I had went 183,000 miles without any repairs"

BUD S., MI (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"For a full featured model lacking some features, like seat memory for 2 drivers, blind spot alert or warning alert for backup camera"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Would like better mileage"

TOM V., CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Very comfortable around town and for trips. Safety features are excellent, especially like the blind spot warning system. Plenty of room in the back"

SAMUEL H., TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Great styling, dependability, lots of room for the money."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The car was expensive but well constructed. Mileage is not great. Overall, a very good car."

MICHAEL A., NC (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The Toyota handles well and delivers a comfortable and quiet ride. However, the screen on the infotainment system is difficult to use almost to the point of being dangerous if trying to access while driving. There was more of a learning curve on the Toyota than the Kia. While it has adequate storage space, it has less cargo volume that the earlier old design models. The A pillar presents quite a blind spot for my wife and no adjustment of the seat eliminates it. Reflecting on the price of..."

"Holds its value"

Linda K., MA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"I buy Toyotas for reliability. This is my 3rd Highlander and it's all I can ask for. Just routine maintenance...no major problems. Have extended warranty."

R Z., IL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Handling, acceleration, ride and comfort is awesome. Would like Toyota to work on improving MPG."

Joseph C., NC (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"For the lease price we pay, we got a lot of features with it: moon roof, nice audio system, leather seats. It fits us all well (4 of us), handles well, and hauls most things we need to get or take places. Good amount of room for everyone."

Anonymous, KY (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"This is an excellent car/SUV. It is a joy to drive and works for every situation: bringing bikes; carrying the kayaks on the roof racks we added; groceries; luggage; grandchildren car seats and strollers and crap. Our son and daughter in law bought one. Our daughter and son in law bought one. We will have this car for a long time."

What Owners Say

"I preferred the sharper, cleaner lines of the older Highlander models. The new ones are too rounded and bubbly looking."

KAREN M., MA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"styling is what's expected given the vehicle choice"

DARLENE T., OK (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Very sharp looking, sporty."

Anonymous, KS (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"All the features are very practical and useful. It is comfortable to drive. No major concerns with the vehicle at all."

"That's why I chose it."

"Sporty"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"The problem is the side mirrors. They are too high. They block my vision completely. I am at an average height, but I have to sit on a pillow to see over them."

DOUGLAS W., NV (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"I love the shelf that is on the dash board. It should be a standard feature on all cars."

T D., NY (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Looks."

MARK H., CA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Don't like captain chairs for back seat; prefer bench seat"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"My wife doesn't like the front end, thinks its to long and hard to see for parking. We both don't like the front window area, its big and interior heats up more than our old Highlander which requires us to turn A/C very low."

STEWART B., FL (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"I don't particularly care for the "stepped on and squashed down" look, which deprives you of rear visibility. Since it is longer and wider than previous models, it's harder to find spaces it fits into, and harder to reach the glovebox, etc."

MARTHA P., NY (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Excellent visibility and it is a good looking vehicle."

SAMUEL H., TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Info screen should be slanted slightly toward the driver. As it is, sunlight from the passenger window creates a glare on the screen making it difficult or impossible to read, especially the back-up screen."

DOROTHY C., TX (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"Many positive comments on the looks"

CLAYTON P., WA (2014 Toyota Highlander)

"They don't sell white cars anymore! It is blizzard pearl and costs extra!. The underside of the lip of airfoil catches dirt and it is very hard to clean."
