They essentially cannot be done by the owner. The lights cost over $150 per light, and installation is at least another $100 (and I have to bargain them down on that). The design of this car is the only one that I have ever seen where you cannot do this yourself. The explanation given by the dealership is that the LED lights are supposed to last three times longer than old style lights, so it shouldn't be a problem. Well, I have had to have both replaces twice in ten years, and they said they will last 9-10 years each. Toyota should have admittd this design error and replaced these lights with no labor cost. It's a design flaw. Most mechanics have indicated that the front bumber must be removed to change out these bulbs. Apparently if you have very long thin fingers you may be able to do it without taking it off, but.... really???? :-) Other than that, the car has been good and I look forward to getting a Tesla Model 3 next."

A few years later, I was stopped because the left headlight was out. I took it to a dealer (not the same one), who replaced the headlight again. Then, just a few months ago, I got stopped again. It seems the headlight is intermittent. Randomly on/randomly off. An independent garage said the light was OK and it would have to go to a dealer. The dealer replaced the light and said it was intermittent because it was going bad. This was just a couple of months aga, but the right headlight has been OK all along. Just waiting for the left headlight to go again. I'm not a mechanic, but doesn't it seem like it could be a ... just waiting for it go go out again. I used the fog lamps get back to work.
