The Prius has been redesigned for 2010. It brings several incremental improvements but nothing revolutionary this time around. A little heavier and more substantial, our tested Prius averaged 44 mpg overall and is still the most fuel-efficient car you can buy. Highway fuel economy has improved slightly, but city mileage has fallen a bit. It can propel itself solely on electric power at low speeds. A firm, steady ride and a more versatile driving position are pluses, and the rear seat is roomy. The larger 1.8-liter engine compensates for the new car's added weight but doesn't boost acceleration. Handling is very secure but not agile.
