Anonymous A., WA (2018 Toyota Prius Four 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

""At approx 79200 miles, the auto developed a coolant leak from the heat exchanger in the catalytic converter causing the car to be unusable. As this was just inside the Toyota warranty (80000 miles / 8 years) they are currently backordering the needed parts and assure me that this will be 100% covered under the warranty. They are also supplying a 2025 auto rental from Hertz (also fully paid for ) with unlimited mileage during the repairs. Due to a supply shortage at this time, this will probably be somewhat of a lengthy process. I can't say enough praise for both Toyota and my Toyota dealer ( Waite Toyota in Watertown, NY ) in the way they are currently handling this problem ! At the moment this car has been down for only 4 days but it is not expected to be resolved soon.""

Anonymous, NY (2018 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    What Owners Say

    Other climate system problem

"The a/c started blowing HOT air. When I told the service advisor, "unplug it to reset it" (half-joking), he said "No, I've seen that problem a lot in the 2018 Prius. It'll cost $5,200 to repair. And it'll take 2 weeks to get the parts; there are only 2 in the USA." "It is a 14-hour repair, taking 2 technicians who have to remove the dashboard." "We won't have a loaner car available for 2 weeks. We are getting ours registered." I was told the problem is caused by extreme temperature changes we have in Oklahoma." I told him my car had been in my garage for 4 weeks (this was on April 8) following my quadruple coronary bypass surgery on Feb 13 (Oklahoma City DID have 3 days of brutal sub-zero weather that next week, but the car was in the garage). THEN he lowered the repair charge to $4,200 and found a 2025 Toyota 4WD Tacoma with 19" wheels that I could use as a loaner (at no charge). I asked if Toyota had a solution for the new parts. He said yes and demonstrated with his hands how the angle of the wiring harness had some kind of rubber device that would cure the problem. On May 7 I got the car and it is fine, the a/c works perfectly. When I took the car in on April 8th, it had 32,815 miles. When I picked it up on May 7th, it had 32,829 miles. Today it has exactly 34,000. This was at Post Oak Toyota in Midwest City, OK. I was going to write to you guys when I happened to see Toyota COO, Mark Templin, on CNBC when I called Toyota of North America (they called themself 'Toyota Brand') and explained, "if this happens often, why wasn't the car recalled or please be so kind to discount the charge." They lady was extra kind and courteous. She called me back and requested and I sent them copies of the work order, the invoice with repair data, and my proof of ownership (the title). I have heard nothing further from Toyota Brand. I did not respond from the survey from Post Oak. I'm glad to receive this questionnaire. If you can motivate Toyota to help me that would be wonderful! I previously bought a new 2005 Prius, had no problems with it. Thank you. By the way, I am well, in excellent shape. Truly back to exceptional physical condition. Have you guys seen this problem in the 2018 Prius Four? If this occurs often, don't they owe me? It's the only way they'll possibly keep me as a customer. Either way, if I buy a new car, it should be an EV. Thanks for all you do. Thanks a lot!"
