What Owners Say
""I noticed that I wasn't getting the level of cooling I was used to last summer and my A/C indicator was flashing. I lifted the hood and saw that the compressor was not engaging th belt drive. I have a friend that ran a test of the A/C system and informed me that the compressor needs to be replaced. I has over 200,000 miles on it. I will order one and replace it myself.""
Anonymous, MN (2008 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)"It failed, needs replaced. I troubleshooted all the minor issues but my mechanic stated the compressor was shot."
Anonymous A., PA (2008 Toyota Tacoma Base 2.7-L 4 Cyl)""started last summer, truck not cooling found out the compressor not working would cost a lot of $$$$ to fix issue""
Anonymous A., MD (2008 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)""From what Ive read, these models are notorious for the clearcoat to degrade. When I bought the car used in 2014, it already had significant clearcoat burn. Basically the clearcoat had degraded to where it was no longer protecting the paint. This mustve been a paint, formulation problem or a preparation problem at auto plant. Ive seen a lot of different models from the same area have this problem and I was very surprised that it was not addressed in a recall as it seems to be universal with a Toyota your models from certain plants. I think Toyota should have been forced to repaint these cars as they affect the resale value. The fan motor stopped working in any position except on high. Also: the valve cover started leaking and I had to replace the cover as well as the gasket. Apparently the valve cover is plastic and it becomes brittle over time.""
Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Tacoma Base 2.7-L 4 Cyl)"Some vents were not circulating cool air. The repair shop replaced the refrigerant, and now the system is working fine."
Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Tacoma Base 2.7-L 4 Cyl)""Guessing a leak is the problem, as cooling performance dropped over a few weeks time. Have not had it checked or repaired yet.""
Anonymous, HI (2008 Toyota Tacoma Base 2.7-L 4 Cyl)""before compressor went out the truck was not cooling a check found it to below freon, used a stop leak to fix problem and it worked find for several weeks then the compressor stop working.""
