Acceleration Acceleration Acceleration tests are conducted on a smooth, flat pavement straightaway at the track. Time, speed, and distance measurements are taken with a precise GPS-based device that’s hooked to a data-logging computer.

Road Test

Introduced in 2007, this generation of the Tundra was bulked up to take on Detroit's full-sized workhorses. Growing dramatically in size, but losing much of the refinement of the previous model, the Tundra, once considered the Camry of pickups -- fully-modern and easy to live with -- became one of the least refined and most dated. Shortcomings abound. Among them, the Tundra's ride is jittery, especially with the TRD off-road package. Build configurations and options were limited as well.

On the plus side, Tundra's 5.7-liter V8 produces effortless power and a still-competitive 15 mpg. Off-road capability is impressive, as is towing capacity. A neat feature is the hydraulically damped tailgate, which falls opens gracefully instead of flopping down.

Squeaking

“Last summer we would hear squealing from the brakes while rounding corners on local streets. It was a simple bend in the road and made no sense. There was no break application at these moments. Took it in to the garage and found out that this is a know problem with the Tundra breaks. They have a fix for it but it cost over $1200 to replace the parts. No warranty of course. We took it to a private garage and they were able to fix for a lot less. We only had to pay for the labor. No squealing”

“The fan motor is designed terribly in recent Tundras. The filter is positioned above the fan motor, so that when the filter is changed anything on top of the filter is pushed off INTO the fan motor. It happened so many times (at the dealership by them 'checking' the filter) than so much debris got in to the fan motor the dealership said the only option was to replace it. AT MY COST!”
