2008 Toyota Yaris Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
The Yaris is offered as a hatchback and a sedan. Either will deliver excellent fuel economy and a very good ride, although handling is sloppy and unforgiving at its limits. Acceleration is adequate, but the engine is noisy at high revs. Stopping distances for our non-ABS equipped hatchback were extremely long.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Paula S., CO (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Low cost of ownership and high safety rating makes this a great choice."

James S., PA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"slow, especially on hills or with passengers"

Ian S., ON (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"The small engine is very responsive and acceleration is relatively quick for a vehicle with low fuel consumption. Handling is very pleasant."

Dennis V., FL (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"It has weak acceleration but drives well otherwise"

Anonymous, TX (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"It's peppy and responsive!"

Anonymous, MA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Very economical to drive."

RICHARD V., ON (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"It has always been a problem when starting off, you have to give it a lot of gas or it kills the motor."

Anonymous, CA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Handling excellent when moving. Backin or driving forward slowly sometimes coonks out. Acceleration Needs to be improved."

Anonymous, MN (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Love the way this car drives. Quick acceleration and great gas mileage. On the highway, I get 36-38 mpg and 32 in town."

PAULA S., CO (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Could use a little more "umph!". However, I knew that more of that would mean less miles per gallon. Great on long trips, comfortable driver's seat. I am 5'3", 145 lbs."

MARGARET S., CO (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Good for a small car what you would expect, no faults"

Mel W., BC (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Acceleration is poor."

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

Ian S., ON (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Back seats have a lot of room once you get in"

Ronald M., NM (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Comfortable even for tall people. Very noisy"

Anonymous, WA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"There is a lot of road noise with this vehicle. It would not be comfortable for long commutes or trips."

Anonymous, BC (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"So much road noise that I need to turn up the radio volume. During a New England winter, it takes a long time for the heater to warm up the air near the windows, so driver's left arm and passenger's right arm are cold for longer than they should be. The shock absorbers are good but not great. Seats are pretty comfortable."

Anonymous, MA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"The road noise is poor so this is not a fun car to drive. The electronic option are almost non existent. There is no cruise control even though the computer is capable."

GEOFFREY W., WA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"noisy and bumping ride"

GEORGE E., TX (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"You combined things which should be separate. Would like a quieteride but nonoiser than corolla"

Anonymous, MN (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Seats are very stiff/hard and the ride is very unforgiving. You feel every little bump in the road. OK for around town but not great for a long trip."

DEBRA V., NY (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"ride is adequate. Acceleration is not so good."

Anonymous, NY (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"I love how quiet the inside of the car is. I really don't hear road noise at all even 9 years later. I wish my seats had lumbar controls and a way to raise and lower my seat. I'm short and headlights from cars behind me blind me in my side mirrors."

Paula W., CA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I paid $12,725 for my 2008 Toyota Yaris when I bought it new in December 2007. I wanted an inexpensive, dependable car with low operating costs. After driving it more than 113,000 miles, I can say without reservations, I got the dependability and low costs I was looking for."

MICHAEL C., WA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Peppy, perfect commuter vehicle with a Tardis-like interior larger than expected. Good head and elbow room with a large cargo area especially with the back seats which easily completely flatten. Mileage often exceeded 38mpg on highway travels. No required or needed maintenance beyond oil, tire, and wiper replacements to date over its lifetime of 119,000 miles and nine years."

ROBERT F., WI (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"For an inexpensive car, reliable low cost transportation."

Anonymous, NY (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Good dependable car that runs cheap on gas and maintenance."

KEITH F., GA (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Given Toyota's reputation for having good cars, this one was a no brainer. Car works fine and it was the best buy at the time as I didn't have enough money to buy something bigger."

DANY F., NB (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Price and great gas mileage."

JOSEPH G., MO (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"This car has been used mainly for going back and forth to the station. However, it has also made many long trips with no problems. I would call it a most reliable car and well worth the price paid for it. It has had no major problems and has needed only regular maintainence."

Anonymous, NY (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Very reliable"

Anonymous, OH (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"So far it's a VERY reliable car. 113,500 miles on the odometer. No problems yet. Car seems to be built very well."

DAVID C., NJ (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Other than replacing a battery and a muffler outside of regular wear and tear items at 196,000 km speaks for itself. For what we paid the car is well equipped as well."

Andreas J., ON (2008 Toyota Yaris)

"Gets very good gas mileage."

Mark S., TX (2008 Toyota Yaris)
