Toyota Yaris

This iteration of the Yaris remained Spartan in an age of increasingly better and more refined subcompacts. On the plus side, fuel economy is excellent. The reworked interior moved the speedometer from the center of the dash to the preferred, traditional position beyond the steering wheel. But the Yaris is noisy, its ride is choppy, its interior looks cheap and its driving position and front seats are uncomfortable.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"This has a stick shift and it feels much better and peppier than one with auto trans."

Ronald P., TX (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"the car handles very well even though it is not speedy during acceleration"

Anonymous, MD (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"Because this is a subcompact, other vehicles tend to speed up when I try to pass. My Yaris has great acceleration to deal with this situation. I really like the response."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"Poor acvceleration."

RICHARD S., NV (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"It has a little trouble accelerating up a steep hill, but it's pretty nimble on a flat highway."

Anonymous, MA (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"acceleration is poor which can be dangerous when passing a car on a two lane road."

Anonymous, WA (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"I'm very happy with the handling - just a little careful on short corners. The acceleration is great. Because it's a sub-compact, other drivers hate me passing them, and I've often had to accelerate way beyond what I expected. The Yaris comes through in these situations, and also performs very well when it's entering a steep climb."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Toyota Yaris)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Noisy, bouncy, uncomfortable seats and poor air conditioning."

RICHARD S., NV (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"The ride is very bumpy. There doesn't seem to be much give in the suspension. Combine that with Montreal roads and a bad back...but it is a great little car for manoeuvring around in a city under construction and finding a little spot to park."

Anonymous, QC (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"The noise is bothersome. Makes it annoying to listen to radio but I don't spend much time in it."

Anonymous, WA (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"the ride is quite hard. the seat is not comfortable for me"

Anonymous, MD (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"It’s very loud. The seats themselves are comfortable. The ride is terrible"

Cathy H., OH (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"I love the driver's seat for its height, ability to get in easily and close to steering (I'm short). Other sedan type cars are way low and SUVs are a pain. Noise can be a bit of a problem when listening to audio, but not a big deal. The ride is fine."

Anonymous, ON (2012 Toyota Yaris)

"It's a little noisy, but it feels pretty nimble for its age and price."

Anonymous, MA (2012 Toyota Yaris)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
