From Our President: Trust in Our Testing
Consumer Reports is committed to being your trusted source—the place you turn to for rigorous, unbiased testing and candid feedback from other consumers. We want to help you make smart decisions on the products and services that best suit your needs and help you extend the life of the products you’ve invested in.
That’s why the mattress ratings you’ll find in "Find a Mattress You’ll Love” reflect not only our extensive lab testing—which includes running a 300-plus-pound wooden roller across each mattress 30,000 times to simulate years of use—but also honest feedback from CR members, who tell us all about the mattresses they’ve been sleeping on.
“The Cars People Love Most” presents a detailed look at satisfaction levels, based on data collected from the drivers of more than 330,000 vehicles. And for our auto reliability ratings, we survey car owners about everything from squeaky brakes to failed transmissions.
When products do need repair, we’re here to help you get them up and running again. Our experts offer advice on “How to Fix Your Phone,” “How to Fix Your Laptop,” and “How to Fix Your WiFi.” We have also pushed state and federal lawmakers to pass right to repair laws, which require manufacturers to supply consumers and independent repair shops with the necessary parts, tools, and manuals to fix what’s broken. Too often, those parts are available only at “authorized” repair dealers, which can be far more expensive. Or the manufacturer makes it impossible to repair a device at all, forcing you to buy new products.
CR doesn’t just help you buy the right stuff. We’re also here to help you enjoy it for as long as possible.
