    From Our President: With Gratitude

As I prepare to step down after 10 wonderful years leading CR, I want to take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come—and where consumers stand today.

In many ways, the marketplace is unrecognizable compared with when I joined CR’s remarkable team. The digital world has evolved at a breakneck pace, altering nearly every aspect of our daily lives. Consumer threats have evolved, too. A handful of digital platforms exert unprecedented control over what we see, the information we encounter is muddled like never before, and innovation arrives faster than our ability to create responsible consumer protections around it.

Given the scale of change we’re grappling with, there has never been a more vital moment to recognize the power we have as consumers. Because it isn’t only the threats we face that are unprecedented—so too are our opportunities to shape the marketplace for the better.

Over the past decade, CR has sought to help people seize those opportunities. We’ve pioneered the testing of digital products and piloted ethical AI tools to help you navigate the digital world with confidence. We’ve created a race to the top for auto safety and secured new rules to make our food, homes, and families safer. We’ve introduced CR to earn the trust of a new generation and modernized how we deliver on our mission. Everything we do is about equipping you to exercise your consumer power—the power you use every time you make a choice or raise your voice in the marketplace.

As I step down from CR, I look forward to cheering on this iconic organization’s next chapter and seeing all the ways our members will assert their power in the years ahead. Thank you for taking this journey with me and for making everything we’ve achieved together possible.

Editor’s Note: This article also appeared in the January/February 2025 issue of Consumer Reports magazine.
