The great majority of people—about 85 percent—who have bought insurance through their state Health Insurance Marketplace have received financial aid to help pay for it. Millions more found out, when they applied for insurance, that based on their income they were eligible to receive Medicaid or CHIP at low or no cost to themselves.
The type and amount of financial aid you might get depends on your income as well as the size of your family and what state you live in. The infographic below gives details. Or you can download a .pdf of it.
It's important to note, though, that you won't find out for sure what kind of assistance you might be able to get until you go to your state marketplace and actually apply for it. This table will just get you started.
IF YOU LIVE IN ALASKA OR HAWAII your income guidelines are different. Find them here.
Our free interactive tool, Health Law Helper, will point you in the right direction.
