Comment:
I bought this trimmer not having done my homework. It's a real Jekyll & Hyde product: it turns from a nice, decent unit into a nightmare fast.

The first 3 times it ran ok & started with just 4-5 pulls. It was able to handle even thick weeds & baby trees effortlessly. The 'Featherlite' name isn't quite true (unless you lift weights). I had to rig a harness to help distribute the weight more evenly as it became harder to use the longer I was working.

After about a month it took more & more to get the unit to kick over. I tried emptying the gas tank, thinking the gas I'd bought may've had water in it, but that wasn't it. (Gas stations are allowed to have up to 6 of water in their tanks. When tanks get too low water may be sucked up with gas. Refilling causes accumulated water to mix with the gas. It takes about a day for the water to rise back to the top of the tank. If you buy gas from a station within 24hrs of having its tanks refilled/topped off you WILL end up w/water in your gas.)

I've tried everything: I clean the air intake before, during & after using the trimmer, changed the plug (I can usually get about 30 hours of run time off a plug before it starts to malfunction) & rebuilt the carburetor. It's the same problem over & over: this particular model string trimmer is highly temperamental when it comes to starting & then you'll be in the middle of doing a job & it'll quit and won't start up again.

About the only plus this trimmer offers is one can get a great workout for your pulling arm.

Comment:
The primer bulb degrades with time, it cannot be replaced. This model requires a whole new carborator, vs other models have a retaining feature that permits easy changeout of primer bulb.

Comment:
We used ours for 15 years. I bet I will never own another weedeater that I get that great of service for that low price. As the lady of the house, I am the one that used it most for one reason because it wasn't too heavy. But my husband also used it out in the barn lot and pasture area to cut larger weeds.
