    All-in-one air treatment

Consumer Reports News: March 21, 2007 08:08 AM

One of the trends I noticed at the recent International Home & Housewares Show in Chicago is that manufacturers seem to be incorporating multiple functions incorporated into one appliance. With its new PACT100P (shown), DeLonghi has combined an air conditioner, an air purifier, and a dehumidifier into at a single portable unit that you can roll from room to room on its casters. The PACT100P, $700 and due in stores in May, is designed to filter and dehumidify air with an independent pump dehumidifier. The 10,000-Btu appliance has two exhaust hoses—one to draw in air to cool the condenser coils, one to remove stale, warm air—so there's no water-collection bucket to empty. Although it's pricey, this unit might cost you less than buying three separate appliances.—Michael DiLauro, Product Specialist
