Myspace gives sex offenders the boot

Consumer Reports News: February 04, 2009 05:44 PM

Myspace has revealed and removed about 90,000 sex offenders from its networking site, company and law enforcement officers said yesterday. Social networking sites like MySpace and others, which allow people of all ages to communicate with each other, can be particularly risky for children.

We recently blogged about the risks for teens on Myspace. Research shows that more than half of teens using MySpace reveal details about risky behavior such as alcohol use, sexual activity, or violence. The researchers point out that teens could be leaving themselves open to unwelcome approaches by online sexual predators, by making reference to their own sex lives.
