Zencore Plus, a dietary supplement that claims to improve erections, was pulled from shelves today after the Food and Drug Administration issued a nationwide recall and warned consumers to stop using it because it could have life-threatening consequences for people who take nitroglycerine or similar drugs for angina or heart failure.
Tests by the FDA revealed that Zencore Plus contained benzamidenafil, a compound similar to active ingredients in erectile dysfunction medicines, such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra). The FDA is concerned that benzamidenafil could interact with nitroglycerin and other drugs, such as isosorbide mononitrate (IMDUR, Monoket, other brand names) and isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, other brand names), that are used to treat angina and heart failure and result in a sudden and dramatic drop in blood pressure.
The agency advised consumers who have already purchased Zencore Plus to stop using it immediately. Zencore Plus, which is sold in health food stores and on various Websites, is manufactured by Bodee LLC.
