Americans have a fondness for bagels, but it turns out that these rotund breads of Eastern European origin can be a problem in th kitchen, and not just if you have a tough time resisting a
carb-laden, high-calorie nosh.
A
recent article in The Wall Street Journal on bagel-slicing devices noted that "In 2008 . . . 1,979 people appeared in ERs with a [bagel-related injury]. Chicken-related injuries (3,463) led the category, but recorded bagel injuries were otherwise exceeded only by potato, apple and onion injuries."
