Some novel 2009 tax breaks still available in 2010

Consumer Reports News: December 30, 2009 07:08 AM

If you're running to the home center today for insulation toward the new home energy tax credit, slow down! That credit, and several others created for tax-year 2009 will still be around in 2010. Taxpayers, regardless of income, can get a credit of as much as $1,500 for qualified home improvements, including insulation, windows, and energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning systems.

Add to that the new "cash for caulkers" incentives, and there are lots of financial reasons to plan for more home improvements in 2010.

Several other tax breaks are being extended, too. Here's the lowdown on the first-time homebuyers credit, good through April 2010, and several other tax breaks still good in 2010.
