2010 International Builders' Show Product Preview: Sherwin-Williams Harmony Paints

Sherwin-Williams' Harmony paint line isn't new, but at this year's Builders' Show the paint manufacturer is promoting a reformulated version of these finishes. The company claims the revamped Harmony paints ($35 to $40 per gallon) will deliver better application, hiding, and durability, and the updated finishes are also supposed to reduce the unpleasant smell that even low-VOC paints release during application and drying.

Harmony finishes had mixed results in our March 2009 report on interior paint and received lower overall scores than paints costing half as much. Among low-luster paints, for instance, the Harmony received the lowest overall score, earning a fair at hiding and poor at fading. The flat and semigloss Harmony paints were middle-of-the-road performers.

Look for the results of our March 2010 report on interior paints—on ConsumerReports.org and on newsstands—in early February. We'll likely test the updated Harmony paints for a future report.
