The
Schlage LiNK Remote Home Management System, which we wrote about last year, uses an Internet connection and encrypted radio-frequency signals to let you remotely control access to your home as well as your lights, HVAC system, and wireless cameras.
The latest iteration of the LiNK system will tie into the GE-compatible security system from Alarm.com, which itself offers third-party-monitored security equipment you can remotely access. The updated LiNK, due out this spring, will allow you to disarm
Alarm.com monitoring devices once the Schlage door lock has given access to an authorized party.
A starter kit, $300, includes the bridge device, which connects via Ethernet to a router; a wireless dead-bolt or lever lock; and a light module for lamps, which acts as a repeater for the wireless signal. Options include additional locks ($200 each), light modules ($50 apiece), Trane setback thermostats ($150 each), and a wireless camera ($180). Monthly access to the Schlage Web-based monitoring system costs $13.
The LiNK system is available at Lowe's, Radio Shack and a number of online retailers.
