Fourth stroller recalled because hinges pose amputation hazard

Britax has recalled 15,000 "Blink" umbrella strollers because the hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation hazard when the stroller is being opened or closed. This is the fourth in a series of stroller recalls because of hinge hazards.

Last November Maclaren recalled one million strollers after getting reports of 12 fingertip amputations. In January Graco recalled 1.5 million strollers with hazardous hinges after five children lost their fingertips. And later that month Cybex recalled 1,200 of its Ruby, Onyx and Topaz umbrella strollers after a child suffered a broken finger. No injuries have been reported with the Britax stroller.

As we wrote earlier, many strollers have similar hinge designs so it's not surprising that more recalls are taking place.

Today's recall involves all Britax "Blink" single umbrella strollers. They were sold at Buy Buy Baby and other juvenile product and mass merchandise retailers in the U.S. and Canada and on the Web at www.Amazon.com, www.babiesrus.com, www.Target.com and www.Diapers.com from July 2009 through February 2010 for about $150.
