A number of Windows XP users running McAfee security software encountered problems after the software company issued a faulty update last week. Among the problems you may have, says McAfee: repeated restarts, missing taskbars, or trouble connecting to the Internet.

McAfee provides instructions for dealing with the problems here. You can also call the company's toll-free service at 866-622-3911.

McAfee also says it will reimburse customers for any repair costs incurred as a result of the update, and added that some customers will be eligible for a free two-year extension of the software.

You can read more about what happened on McAfee's blog. According to CNET, tens of thousands of computers either crashed or repeatedly rebooted as a result of the upgrade.
