To get the $250 mail-in rebate being offered by Hawaii Energy (covering Hawaii, Lanai, Oahu, Maui, and Molokai) and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (Kauai) through the Trade Up for Cool Cash program, Hawaiians must buy an Energy Star-qualified refrigerator (16 cubic feet and bigger) at participating retailers from May 24 to June 23 or until the funds run out and arrange to have their old refrigerator hauled away. Rebates must be postmarked by July 31.
Cash for appliances rebates are now available in 39 states and territories. The program has closed in 12 states and Puerto Rico, leaving only the District of Columbia and Guam (later this month), Nebraska (July), and West Virginia (June 17) yet to start handing out their share of the $300 million in cash for clunkers for appliances rebates.
