The "Auto Fire" toy gun is either orange and yellow or blue and yellow, and came with orange darts and a small target with numbers from 1 to 20. The soft plastic darts measure just over one inch in length and have a small suction cup at one end with a diameter of about ½ inch. "Gordy Toy" for "Ages 8+" is printed on the packaging.
The toy sets were sold exclusively at Family Dollar stores nationwide from September 2005 through January 2009. The CPSC's recall notice says, "Family Dollar is working cooperatively with CPSC to announce this recall because Henry Gordy International has refused to recall the toy dart gun sets."
Parents might not be overly motivated to return an item that cost so little, but we strongly advise them to. According to the CPSC, the boys who died were 9 and 10—older than the recommended 8+ age on the product's packaging—so a hazard clearly exists for all ages of kids, not just the youngest ones.
