GM's premium division has announced a new free-maintenance program for owners of 2011 Cadillacs. The program provides maintenance at no charge for four years, 50,000 miles, and it covers oil changes, tire rotations, air filters replacements, and inspections. The free maintenance program launches with the new 2011 CTS coupe, which is set to go on sale in early July.
In addition to the maintenance program, Cadillac also offers the following to new customers:
This move follows BMW and Volvo in providing free maintenance during the first few years. (Some luxury brands, such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz, allow customers to pre-pay their maintenance.) With free maintenance, the typical lease customer needs to worry about only the initial payment and monthly installments, simplifying their car budgeting.
For Cadillac, this move may work to counter the brand's weak reputation for reliability by limiting concerns for new-car buyers. In our last reliability survey, based on our subscribers' experiences with 1.4 million vehicles, we found Cadillac ranked 31st among 32 brands. Its full product portfolio has below-average predicted reliability.
