Ford and General Motors have announced partnerships with Google that will allow Ford Sync and GM's OnStar users to remotely search for locations and destinations using Google Maps. Users will be able to send turn-by-turn directions directly to their vehicles from their home or office computer, or any mobile device with Internet access.

The system enhancements, called Sync Send to Sync and OnStar eNav are both set to launch later this month. There will be no charge for Sync users, but Sync Send requires the Traffic, Directions, and Information app. OnStar eNav is free to subscribers with the Directions and Connections service, which is standard on all 2011 models and was previously a $299/yr option.

OnStar subscribers with vehicles from the 2006 model year or newer vehicles will be eligible for the upgrade. Any Sync user with the Traffic, Directions, and Information app will be able to use Sync Send.
