Actually, the Monster Vision Max 3D glasses—which cost $250 for a kit that contains the glasses and a transmitter—convert the IR signals sent out by 3D TVs to RF, which is then received by the glasses. Monster is using Zigbee's 2.4GHz RF technology.
Monster claims using RF technology helps improve interference rejection, and RF doesn't have the same line-of-sight requirements as IR. Also, Monster's system can be updated to learn new IR codes as new ones are used by manufacturers, enabling it to work with almost any brand.
The Monster Vision Max 3D glasses will be available in September. In addition to the $250 kit, individual glasses can be purchased for $170 per pair.
