I can't find the Frigidaire LAD504TDL dehumidifier that you recommend, though I have seen similar model numbers in stores. Are these models the same and will they perform comparably? Manufacturers often use different model numbers on their appliances for the different locations where they're sold—big-box stores, independent retailers, e-tailers, etc. The L at the beginning and end of the model number of the
Frigidaire LAD504TDL medium-capacity dehumidifier, $210, we tested for our
July 2010 review of dehumidifiers indicates that it is sold at Lowe's, where we bought it for testing.
You can find models similar to Frigidaire's LAD504TDL.
But you're not limited to shopping at Lowe's for this medium-capacity dehumidifier. As you'll see in the
ratings of dehumidifiers (available to
subscribers), Frigidaire also makes the FAD504TDD, available at a various brick-and-mortar and Web retailers, and the FAD504TDB, sold at Best Buy. While we did not test these specific models, we expect both to perform similarly to the LAD504TDL.
Note that features on the FAD504TDD and FAD504TDB versions could differ, as might prices—we've seen the FAD504TDD priced as low as $165 at Walmart, though it's currently out of stock there. We also tested the large-capacity Frigidaire LAD704TDL, $250, and the small-capacity Frigidaire LAD254NTL, $145, both sold at Lowe's. Similar models for those are, respectively, the FAD704TDB (Best Buy), FAD704TDD, and FAD704TDP, and the FAD251NTB (Best Buy) and FAD254NTD.
The Frigidaire LAD504TDL is one of the quieter dehumidifiers we tested, making it a smart choice if you spend a lot of time in the space where you run the appliance. If you need to dehumidify a large space or one with very high relative humidity, get a large-capacity unit that can remove at least 65 pints of water per day.
