Since Apple launched its iPhone 4 and multi-tasking OS 4 operating system, app makers have been scrambling to update their software to take advantage of the new capabilities. (Read: "

We have seen this rapid development in the navigation arena, where even the best offerings have been limited by the iPhone's inability to perform more than one function at a time. Navigon is the latest company to issue a notable upgrade, adding new features and updated maps while providing a limited-time price reduction.
The Navigon MobileNavigator has performed well in our navigation tests, and this update brings several enhancements. (See our
iPhone navigation app ratings.) Most anticipated, MobileNavigator 1.6.0 promises to deliver continuous turn-by-turn guidance while running other applications, as well as receive a call.
Live Weather reports current weather conditions and forecasts the weather along the route. In addition, it can display a three-day forecast.
Another new feature is called Clever Parking. By tapping a "P" icon near your destination, the app can provide a list of nearby parking options.
Pedestrian mode provides verbal directions for hands-free operation.
The three-dimensional graphics have been enhanced.
As we have seen in this hotly contested app segment, product evolution happens quickly. These enhancements make the MobileNavigator even more compelling, further aided by a temporary price reduction.
Through the iTunes Store, the full MobileNavigator app price is discounted $30 to $49.99. The real bargain is the full-featured MyRegion versions now offered for $17.99. These include the maps for just a few states, but they may be adequate for many drivers. An additional region can be added for $12.99.
