2011 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD: Redesigned but will there be run-flat tire issues?

Looking for an AWD minivan? The 2011 Toyota Sienna is the only game in town. As with the previous generation, the new all-wheel-drive package won't accommodate a spare tire. Hence, Toyota continues to use run-flat tires - a solution that was not well received by owners of the last-generation van. Many readers had complained about limited run-flat tire replacement choices, as well as the expense of those available tires. There were also numerous complaints of fast-wearing tires that led Toyota to offer a tread-wear warranty on the original-equipment tires. We did a long-term wear evaluation of our 2007 Sienna and found with regular maintenance the tires wore well. Still, complaints persist.

The 2011 Sienna uses a new tire model and larger wheel size run-flat than on the previous model. The original equipment tire is now the Bridgestone Turanza EL400-02 RFT in a 235/55RF18. Unfortunately, like the 2007 model we tested, tire choices are limited and the run-flats still come at a premium price. Our question: Will they last? We purchased a 2011 Sienna with these tires and are doing an extended tread life evaluation; we promise to bring you periodic updates. So far the minivan has logged more than 4,000 miles without incident.
