Target isn't the best place to buy a small appliance, according to the National Research Center's latest
Appliance Shopper Satisfaction Survey. Inadequate selection is among the complaints we heard from 21,000 respondents, many of whom reported better luck finding products at independent retailers and online giant Amazon.
In an effort to expand its selection, it was announced this week that
Target will begin stocking GE countertop microwave ovens, including the following models:
- GE Profile JES2251SJ[SS], 2.2 cubic-foot capacity, stainless steel
- GE JES1344SK, 1.3 cubic-foot capacity, stainless steel
- GE JES1145DPWW, 1.1 cubic-foot capacity, stainless steel
"We are confident the innovative cooking and style features we offer in our microwave line-up will strike a real chord with Target's clientele and that the strength of the GE brand will provide more options for Target's discriminating customers," said Mike Nerdig, marketing manager for Global Products, GE Appliances & Lighting.
So is this a good move for Target—and for you? In
Consumer Reports current review of 30 countertop microwaves, the GE Profile JES2251SJ[SS] is number one among large models, boasting very good heating evenness and excellent defrosting and ease-of-use. We have not tested the other GE models.
Over in the lighting aisle, several GE-made CFLs sold at Target made the recommended list in our
latest report on lightbulbs.
