CEA: Electronics keep Friday in the black

Door-busting prices on electronics lured many consumers out shopping last Friday, and the most popular choices were MP3 players, video game consoles and accessories, and computers, including notebooks and tablets, according to interim results from a survey by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Of those who shopped during the holiday weekend, the CEA survey shows that 58 percent bought some type of electronics product—up from 54 percent last year.

"Black Friday traditionally offers the best tech deals of the season," says Paul Reynolds, CR's electronics editor. "These figures suggest that many waited for the holiday weekend, and that the electronics sales starting months ago didn't keep shoppers away from Black Friday discounts."

Our latest holiday poll found fewer Americans overall planned to shop on Black Friday, but of those who did electronics were a top priority. Three quarters of those shoppers said they planned to buy at least one tech gift over the weekend. Video games and accessories and MP3 players were also the top items on our shoppers' lists, but we found more people are planning to purchase LCD or plasma TVs and e-book readers this year as well.

The best tech deals of the year may have passed with the holiday weekend, but there are certainly more very good sales to come. Keep an eye on our Daily Electronics Deals to score a good price on the electronics on your list.
