Video: Pixar "Cars 2" movie trailer shows McQueen racing Grand Prix

Consumer Reports News: November 16, 2010 03:25 PM

Keepin' it wheel, Disney/Pixar has released a full trailer for the upcoming movie, "Cars 2." The sequel to the popular animated 2006 film "Cars" looks to bring back many favorite four-wheeled characters from Radiator Springs ("the cutest little town in Carburetor County"), as the big-eyed cars have an international adventure.

Lightning McQueen, the "precision instrument of speed and aerodynamics," moves from the Piston Cup series to entering a World Grand Prix race, which is certain to expand the overseas audience for the franchise. "Cars 2" takes the tale from the original's personal character development and small-town environment into the world of espionage, with what looks to be both James Bond thrills and gags. Plus the gang will have more chances to float like a Cadillac, and sting like a Beemer.

The trailer has a few chuckle-worthy moments, such as tow-truck Mater citing his "average intelligence" and the tire-less cars proceeding through airport security. Given Pixar's impressive track record, this new movie will likely delight audiences, young and old.

Mater wants kids of all ages to "Git-R-Done" and be there for the premier. And just as in the first Cars movie, Lightning will certainly play up to the audience with his usual "look at me, here I am, love me" approach.

The movie opens in theaters on June 24, 2011.

    Ka-chow!
