Are you one of the 24 percent of shoppers who plan to hit the stores next Friday? The consumer frenzy that is Black Friday is almost here, and we've been posting deals and advice since July. But we're just getting started.

Traditionally, stores start "officially" advertising their Black Friday specials about a week in advance. However, the growth of sites that exist solely to post leaked ads (blackfriday.info, theblackfriday.com, dealnews.com, and blackfriday.net, to name a few) has changed the game, giving shoppers more time to prepare and decide whether it's actually worth their while to brave the crowds next week.

We want to save you as much legwork as we can. We'll look through all of the Black Friday electronics-store bargains in each of our major categories—TVs, cameras, camcorders, Blu-ray players, MP3 players, computers, and more. And early next week, we'll post our findings to let you know the best deals.

So when can you get started shopping? Some major retailers will actually open their doors to bargain hunters on Thanksgiving Day this year, and most open very early on Black Friday. Here are some of the hours, but please do check your local store to be certain. And bear in mind that some stores end their Black Friday deals relatively early in the day—again, check locally.

  • Sears will be open Thanksgiving Day (11/25) from 7 a.m. to noon. On Black Friday (11/26) the store sale hours are 4 a.m. to noon.
  • Kmart will open on Thanksgiving Day from 6 a.m. and on 11/26 at 5 a.m.
  • Costco opens on 11/26 at 9 a.m.
  • Best Buy opens on 11/26 at 5 a.m.
  • Walmart opens on 11/26 at 5 a.m.
  • Office Depot opens on 11/26 at 6 a.m.
  • Target opens on 11/26 at 4 a.m.
  • Office Max opens on 11/26 at 7 a.m.
  • RadioShack opens on 11/26 at 5:30 a.m.
  • Staples opens on 11/26 at 5:30 a.m.

This weekend, your best bet is to get some rest and take some time to go through the posts linked to below. Then check back Monday and Tuesday for our category-by-category advice.

Have a very happy Thanksgiving holiday, and stay safe!
