Ryobi has recalled 21,500 portable table-saws after a consumer was hit by a piece of metal while using one. The blade on the motor carriage of the model RTS20 saw can be misaligned, posing a laceration hazard. Owners of the saw are advised to stop using it, according to the recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Made in China, the 10-inch, portable table-saw has a blue base and warning label with the model RTS20 and the Ryobi name printed on it and attached to the back of the saw. It was sold at Home Depot nationwide and in Canada from July 2010 through October 2010 for about $200.
Consumers should contact Ryobi to receive a free inspection of their product and, if necessary, a free repair or replacement at (800) 597-9624 or by visiting the firm's website at www.ryobitools.com.
Consumer Reports tested an earlier version of this saw a few years ago but not the recent model covered by the time frame of this recall. Saws are dangerous enough when working properly so it's especially important that consumers heed this recall. Even if your saw is not included,, you should always follow proper safety precautions.
In October, Ryobi recalled 455,000 cordless drills after 47 reports of the drills overheating, smoking, melting or catching fire, including 12 reports of property damage and two incidents involving minor burns.
