This year brings true innovation in video gaming: Motion-based play is now possible on each of the big-three consoles.
The Nintendo Wii which appeared in 2006, was way ahead of the competition with its Wii Remote, a wireless game controller that moved players off the couch and into the game. Recently the company introduced the MotionPlus controller, which gives the player more precise movement.
Then earlier this year, the Sony PlayStation 3 followed suit with the Move controller, which brought superior graphics (and more expense) to motion-based gaming. And as of last month, Microsoft has jumped on the bandwagon—and taken things even further—with the Kinect for Xbox 360: a movement-tracking camera that lets you interact with your games using only your body.
So will you jump into motion-based gaming this coming holiday? Wii owners may decide to try a MotionPlus controller, or they could expand their gaming horizons and buy an Xbox 360 or PS3 along with their new controllers. Current owners of those two latter platforms can join the movement by purchasing the Move or Kinect as add-ons.
But what about folks who haven't yet bought any of these gaming systems? Which one is right for them? Our video will help you make the decision. Find even more game-console buying advice at Consumer Reports Online.
