What will they think of next? You can program your TV and start you car remotely so why not fill the bathtub as well. That's the idea behind Moen's ioDigital electronic controls for baths and showers.
The wall-mounted control panel—with a handheld remote—lets you set and maintain water temperatures and, for baths, the water level, too. The system includes up to four preset options so each family member can customize his or her own bathing options. And if you have kids, the Roman tub also includes a child lock that keeps them from raising the water level and temperature. And for the "vertical spa," you can switch between multiple body sprays and rain and handheld showers—or turn it all on at once.
Both the remote and ioDigital's control panel can be operated up to 30 feet away from the tub or shower. Basically it works like a garage-door opener, using radio-frequency signals.
Moen's digital bath controls also cost less than some you may see: The digital shower head and Roman tub models sell for a little over $1,000, while the vertical spa body-spray version costs roughly $2,500. You can even use the ioDigital with an existing Moen shower head.
Finishes include chrome, brushed nickel, and oil-rubbed bronze. It's available at plumbing showrooms and by special order at Home Depot and Lowe's, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.
