Ask most consumers about "modding," or modifying, their computers, and they may tell you about the time they upgraded their memory or added a new hard drive. But if you're part of the thriving modder community, those are just baby steps. Computer manufacturer Lenovo recently issued a challenge to modders, asking them to use Lenovo PCs as a base, and doing, well, just about anything they wanted to with them. The winners brought their PCs to the Consumer Elecronics Show and shared them with us.
While the winners chose their inspiration in blocks of ice, classic gaming consoles, and stylish living-room furniture, nothing's off limits if you're willing to give it a try. Well, perhaps not exactly nothing: Be prepared to void the manufacturer's warranty the second you begin. Also be ready to destroy expensive equipment if you don't know what you're doing. So start slowly: Think tailfins and chrome instead of a new engine. Then, when you're ready, get inside and go for broke!
