Joining the growing lineup of 11-inch laptops is a new model from Sony, the Y Series. The 11.6-inch laptop weighs in at 3.2 pounds and comes equipped with new Vision AMD processors. The lowest-end configuration includes 2GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive, and prices start at $550. As with most laptops this size, there is no built-in optical drive.

With the Y Series, the company told us, it is leaving the netbook market.

Sony also launched its new S Series of 13.3-inch laptops; these weigh 4.4 pounds and are an inch thick.

Most models in the S Series will have a backlit keyboard. They'll also feature built-in Intel Wireless Display— WiDi—technology, for wirelessly streaming content to an HDTV. The S Series laptops retail for $900.

Both S and Y Series laptops have LED backlit, widescreen displays.
