Ford is recalling 280,000 of its popular F-150 pickups because a failure in the door handle could allow the doors to open in a crash.
The recall affects 2009 and 2010 models built between Jan. 18, 2008 and Nov. 30, 2009.
According to the recall notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a plastic piece of the interior door handle mechanism can become fatigued over time and reduce tension on the door handle spring. If this happens, the door could fail to latch properly. Ford is not aware of any accidents related to this potential problem.
