Recall: 2011 Ford Explorer - Rear seat safety

Ford has issued the first recall of the new 2011 Explorer SUV. Some of the rear seats don't meet federal crash safety standards. In the event of a crash, the seats might not be strong enough to avoid collapse, because one of the parts of the folding mechanism was manufactured out of specification.

The recall involves 1,658 Explorers with manually reclining 60/40-folding second-row seats, built between July 15, 2010 and Dec. 13, 2010.

Dealers will begin notifying owners of recall number 11C15 starting around Feb. 14. Owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332.
