HTC gives its flagship EVO 4G smart phone the 3D treatment

Consumer Reports News: March 22, 2011 04:14 PM

HTC threw its hat into the nascent mobile 3D ring with the EVO 3D, which (like the LG Thrill we reported on yesterday) promises a glasses-free 3D experience on its 4.3-inch display. The smart phone, which will be available from Sprint this summer for an undisclosed price, runs on the carrier's fast 4G network and has dual 5-megapixel cameras that work in tandem to capture images and HD videos (at 720p) in 3D.

The phone also has a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera to facilitate video chats via Qik, and it can share the videos it takes wirelessly with HDTVs and other devices that support DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), but only in 2D. For sharing content in 3D, you'll need to hook up the phone to the TV using an optional HDMI cable (about $30).

Other notable features of the EVO 3D include 4GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, and support for MicroSD cards of up to 32GB. And like other 4G HTC smart phones, the EVO 3D can act as 3G/4G mobile hotspot for up to 8 devices.

HTC also introduced a new tablet today, the HTC EVO View 4G. No pricing is yet available for either device; both are expected to ship this summer.
