Internet service provider Comcast today announced that its new high-speed residential service is now available to over 40 million subscribers—at a price, of course. Its Extreme 105 offers a download speed of 105 Mbps along with an upload speed of 10 Mbps.
This latest super-high-speed level to Comcast's Xfinity home broadband offering carries a high price tag: at an introductory price of $105 a month, as part its Triple Play bundle. It's also available as a standalone service at $199.95 a month.
Comcast claims that this is the fastest Internet service available to residences. The speed makes a difference primarily for consumers who use the Web beyond surfing and e-mail: downloading high-definition movies, for example, streaming video, or playing resource-intensive online games.
