Research in Motion (RIM) has announced a recall of about 1,000 of its premier BlackBerry PlayBook tablet computer. According to a statement issued by the company, the problem lies with RIM's BlackBerry Tablet operating system, which may prevent the device from loading new software.
A spokesperson for RIM says the issue affects only the 16GB version of the PlayBook tablet, many of which still haven't reached consumers' hands yet. "In the small number of cases where a customer received a PlayBook that is unable to properly load software upon initial setup, they can contact RIM for assistance," the company said in a statement.
Our testers haven't yet seen any issue with the BlackBerry PlayBook that we're currently testing for our Tablet computer Ratings (available to subscribers). And while an operating system flaw could be possibly remedied through a software patch, we've found other issues that buyers should be aware of when shopping for a tablet.
Check out our First Look of the BlackBerry PlayBook and watch our video (embedded below) for more details.
