Seagate announces GoFlex Satellite Wi-Fi storage drive

Consumer Reports News: May 16, 2011 10:27 AM

Storage company Seagate today unveiled a new solution for wireless devices such as smart phones and tablets: the GoFlex Satellite is a 500GB battery-powered external hard drive that connects with your portable devices over Wi-Fi, letting you store and access large media files without a cable connection. It does come with a USB cable as well for faster data transfers.

You can attach up to three devices simultaneously on the GoFlex Satellite. Its rechargeable lithium-polymer battery is rated for up to 25 hours of standby use and 5 hours of continuous streaming.

You'll download the GoFlex Media app to power the wireless connection; it's available now at the iTunes store for Apple iPhones and iPads, and an Android version should be out by this summer. The GoFlex Satellite can be pre-ordered now, and goes on sale this July at a suggested price of $200.
