Consumer Reports News: May 12, 2011 07:08 AM

Teachers, parents, schools, caregivers—did you ever want to get the word out about recalls when you hear them? Now anyone can sign up and help spread the word about unsafe children's toys, products, food—anything that gets recalled.

Most recalls are issued by multiple government agencies. But The National School Safety Coalition's Click Check and Protect Campaign channels all those recalls into one news feed that can go straight to your inbox or phone, in a free weekly email.

Last year alone, Consumers Union reported on 428 product recalls that resulted in 26 deaths and 632 injuries. That can change starting now, according to Jamie Schaefer-Wilson, associate director of multimedia outreach at Consumer Reports (one of the Coalition's partners): "This is an effort to reach all of those who touch the life of a child every single day. A child shouldn't be put at risk simply because we couldn't get the word out."

Sign up for this alert now! Bonus: The five teachers who get the most parents to sign up will win $100 each!
