Vudu, the online video streaming service now owned by Walmart, is bolstering its content lineup with episodes of a number of popular TV shows, including "Gossip Girl," "Glee," "Bones," and "Modern Family." The service had launched with a strong emphasis on streaming high-def movies.
With these latest offerings, Vudu is trying to keep pace in the hyper-competitive market among streaming video services, which includes Amazon, Blockbuster, CinemaNow, and Netflix. Vudu says prices for the TV episodes will start at $1.99, and viewers can automatically get new episodes when released as part of a Season Purchase option.
In addition to the Fox and ABC shows, Vudu will have access to several Showtime programs, including "Weeds" and "Nurse Jackie," plus the zombie adventure series, "The Walking Dead," from AMC. The company says it is pursuing additional content deals to expand its available library of streaming movies and programs. Vudu is now also offering some streaming of 3D movies.
To make it easier to locate the new TV shows, Vudu has update its interface with a TV Networks homepage, where all TV content is aggregated and accessible by network or studio.
